The Cicada Princess

It's been a long time since I have mentioned any puppet related items here and this is too good not to share.  For years I have been kicking around the idea of meshing puppeteering with stop motion so I am glad to have discovered THE CICADA PRINCESS which does all of that and more.

Sculpting with Blender

For anyone doing any sort of creature design work including full figured creatures to animate and make-up or mask concepts, ZBrush is a fantastic software tool to use.  However, for many the price is what keeps most aspiring artists from not utilizing it.

Fortunately I have discovered, after being away from it for so long, that Blender, which is a free open-source 3D modeling program, now has a sculpting tool.  This is as close to ZBrush as you can get and the price can't be beat.

So with that in mind here is a awesome three-part tutorial on sculpting Blender blender basics to get you on the right track:

The program can be downloaded here.

BLENDER TUTORIALS

For the love of Frankenstein! What is it with Blender video tutorials? Are they all as bad as the ones I have seen on Youtube. It seems that there should be some sort of Videocopilot version of Blender. By any chance does anyone know of any good tutorials to share?
