I mentioned this over at the Lost in Schlock Facebook page but I love it so much that I think it's worth repeating here.

Backyard FX has a incredible tutorial on how to make sci-fi DEAD SPACE inspired armor out of garage rubber foam pads and the use of a heat gun.

Build a Halo Suit Replica from Foam

Here is a very cool tutorial I have found on how to use foam to make a Halo suit of armor.  This suit can of course be modified to make your own suit of armor for any science fiction film.

My Bioshock Big Daddy Suit Project: Stage Two

Here is stage two of the Big Daddy Suit.  I drilled the beginning of the portholes in the dome and attached the Styrofoam ring. 

Afterwards, I added the neckpiece made out of cardboard.  I am adding a layer of masking tape to start help speed up the process when it's time to use mache.

The next step for me is to build what I call the bib piece of the suit and work my way towards the back until the full suit is pieced together, taped, and ready to mache.   I promise more pics to come.

Also take notice that I am using mostly found and inexpensive materials to help keep costs down.

Inspiration: Mass Effect M8 Avenger Assault Rifle

I am constantly amazed at the brillaint props and costumes that come out of Volpin Props.  This includes the now famous Big Daddy suit and the Daft Punk Helmet. 

Adding to the list of awesome is a replica of the M8 Assault Rifle from the game Mass Effect.  Go here to see the step-by-step process that went into the making of this cool prop.

Inspiration: Someone Has Built The Animatronic Halo Elite Suit

A trio of hardcore Halo fans have made an animatronic Halo Elite Suit!  I gotta say that this costume is just pure awesome not just because of it's startling height or detail, but the time it took to craft such a thing is a true show of pure fan dedication.   Go here to see some more pics of the finished costume and a brief video of the suit's build process.

Cosplay: Gears of War Armor How-To

Cosplayer costume and prop maker, Amethyst Angel, has posted a how-to look at her recent project: Marcus Fenix's armor from the video game Gears of War. 

The post is a really fantastic look at how armor can be made and shows the complexity of turning something found in a game and bringing it into real life, which is never an easy task.  Go here to see more.

Big Daddy (BIOSHOCK) Costume Update

I'm still working on the pre-design of the suit.  Everything regarding the suit is going a lot slower than I would like.  However, the goal is still to get it done before October and that is the plan, Stan. 

My next step is that I am going to take the diagram found at Volpin Props and print out a life size mock up of it using Rasterbator.  This will hopefully give me some idea as to how big the suit will be and what needs to be done. 

I got the idea from the behind-the-scenes vids of Hellboy 2 regarding the Wink (Troll) creature suit.  According to the Rasterbator program I can expect to print out 200 sheets of paper per side of the suit.  I might have to go to Office Depot for some printer ink and paper.

Yesterday Kotaku posted this video of Cosplay genius Holly Condrad's audtion tape for a upcoming Comic Con documentary showcasing her love of costume design and peek at her Mass Effect project which includes a working animatronic of Grunt.

Despite my love of props and costumes I have never been into Cosplay, but damn I love the passion of it all, and Holly Conrad's website is chock full of awesome costumes and ideas.  Seriously, go to her site, Sorcery and Glue, right now and stare in awe of all of the things she and her friends have made.  Let's hope that she gets into that documentary too.
