My Bioshock Big Daddy Suit Project: Stage Two

Here is stage two of the Big Daddy Suit.  I drilled the beginning of the portholes in the dome and attached the Styrofoam ring.

Afterwards, I added the neckpiece made out of cardboard.  I am adding a layer of masking tape to start help speed up the process when it's time to use mache.

The next step for me is to build what I call the bib piece of the suit and work my way towards the back until the full suit is pieced together, taped, and ready to mache.   I promise more pics to come.

Also take notice that I am using mostly found and inexpensive materials to help keep costs down.

Bioschock Big Daddy Suit: Stage One

For those who don't know I am building a Big Daddy Suit mostly from paper mache and found materials.  This is a method that I decided to use to keep costs down on the build.

The dome is a paper mache copy of a giant beach ball that I bought for a dollar.  It has about eight layers of news paper and a single layer of mache cloth.  I then gave it several coats of polyurethane.

The ring which will be attached to the dome is a styrofoam wreath form that I found in a dumpster.  I carved it a bit on the inside and painted it with wood glue and mod podge to reinforce it.

This weekend I plan making the window port holes for the dome and start the building process for the main body using cardboard scraps a friend of my wife's gave to me.  This too will be covered in mache and coated in polyurethane before the paint job.

Big Daddy (BIOSHOCK) Costume Update

I'm still working on the pre-design of the suit.  Everything regarding the suit is going a lot slower than I would like.  However, the goal is still to get it done before October and that is the plan, Stan.

My next step is that I am going to take the diagram found at Volpin Props and print out a life size mock up of it using Rasterbator.  This will hopefully give me some idea as to how big the suit will be and what needs to be done.

I got the idea from the behind-the-scenes vids of Hellboy 2 regarding the Wink (Troll) creature suit.  According to the Rasterbator program I can expect to print out 200 sheets of paper per side of the suit.  I might have to go to Office Depot for some printer ink and paper.

BIG DADDY

Well, as some of you who follow me on Twitter already know, I was going to create a gorilla costume similar to an early Rick Baker suit. This would have been used for Halloween 2010 and of course a film or two. However, change of plans. Instead I'm building this:

Details and step-by-step posts to coming soon.
